This is our new policy regard Electronic Assist Bicycles, also known as E-Bikes. If you have a bike with a motor, this applies to you.

Because of an awful year or so working with various manufacturers of a wide variety of E-Bikes, we have come to the conclusion that we will restrict the scope of the E-bikes that we will service. Not all “E-bikes” are created equal, and that term has become a looser and looser bit of nomenclature as that market expands. We gave it a chance, and have had many hours wasted by “reputable” peddlers of such products and their “support” networks.

E-Bikes are an inevitable and irrevocable part of the modern bike industry, and we accept that. E-Bikes have been useful as alternate transportation and any body on a bike is potentially one less car on the road. We even sell brands that have E-Bike offerings, so you could even buy an E-Bike from us if you like!

The E-Bike segment is flooded with many breeds of manufacturers, every one of which is vying for it’s share of the feast. What we have discovered is that many who purport themselves to be mighty lions turn out to actually be hyenas scavenging for a piece of the action in an unscrupulous manner.

All E-Bikes that we choose to service will be at our sole discretion, and we reserve the right to refuse service on any E-Bike at all.

Going forward, we are only going to service E-Bikes that have been purchased through mainstream, primary bicycle industry manufacturers and their networks of dealers. That is to say, if you have purchased your E-Bike from a company that also has a wide range of standard bikes and sells their full product line through a traditional independent bicycle dealer (IBD), then chances are we will help you with it. Does the manufacturer of your bike also have a team in the Tour de France? Then we are probably going to help you out. Did you buy your bike at an E-Bike specific store that sold other electronic transport gizmos like scooters and those cornball one-wheel things? Definitely not going to work on that.

Think Specialized, Trek, Giant, Cannondale, or any of the manufacturers we sell. That sort of bike.

If we have worked on your E-Bike before we may grandfather you into this policy, but only at our sole discretion and approval upon request. Sorry, it’s been that bad of an experience across the board.

If you don’t know if your bike qualifies for service under this policy, then please reach out before schlepping that beast into the shop. You can send an email with pictures, you can text the shop phone line with pictures, or you can call and describe the bike. We will gladly tell you what you have, and happily give you a referral to someone nearby who will welcome your bike if we don’t.

Thanks for your understanding. If you own an E-Bike, we don’t mind at all and don’t think less of you for it! They are a lot of fun and we have put in many miles enjoying ourselves on E-Bike. We just had to make a policy that was clear and unfortunately will exclude many bicycles. You can still bring your regular bikes to us for service and support your local shop!
